Local Arrangements for MTSE/SCSMT 2016

2016 Joint Annual Meeting of Music Theory Southeast and the South Central Society for Music Theory

Getting There:

  • Driving: (Strongly recommended)
    • Travel along I-75 South to the Chastain Road Exit (no. 271).
      • To the conference venue: Go west on Chastain Road and take a right at Frey Road. The East Deck will be on your left.
      • To the conference hotel: Go east on Chastain Road and take a right onto Busbee Dr. NW. The hotel will be on your left.
  • Flying: Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport
    • Transportation from the airport:
      • Shuttle: $55 for one person (and $15 for each additional passenger)
      • Taxi: $80 – $100
      • Public Transportation: $5 (strongly discouraged due to duration and complexity)

Parking:

  • There is free on-campus parking for our event in the East Deck third floor and above in Lot-A (no permit required).
  • There is also a free campus bus (the black line) that will take you between the conference hotel and the conference venue. The pickup is across from the conference hotel at the KSU Center and the stop for the conference venue is the KSU Commons.

Conference Venues:

  • Friday: All events take place in the Carmichael Student Center (Lower Level: University Rooms A – E)
  • Saturday: All events take place in Prillaman Hall (Rooms 1000 and 1002)

  • Conference hotel: Comfort Suites at Kennesaw State (1 mile from venue)
    • 3366 Busbee Dr NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144
      • Each room has a pullout couch
    • Cost: $89/night (for a single suite or a double suite)
    • Reservation due a month in advance for group rate (February 29th)
    • Other hotels nearby the conference hotel (1 – 1.5 miles from venue)

Post-Conference Activities:

  • Thursday, March 31st
    • 8pm: Piano Recital (at Kennesaw State University) by David Watkins, Professor Emeritus of Piano (free)
  • Friday, April 1st
    • 8pm: Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (at Kennesaw State University) playing Berlioz Le Corsaire Overture, Ravel Piano Concerto for Left Hand and Rapsodie espagnole, and Debussy Le Mer ($23 – 55)
  • Saturday, April 2nd
    • 8pm: Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (in the Woodruff Arts Center) playing Berlioz , Ravel, and Debussy
  • Museums:
    • High Museum of Art, MLK Jr. Museum, Museum of Puppetry Arts, and World of Coca-Cola
